Lithuanian team successfully came home: first interview with a team member - photographer Artūras Artiušenka

We announced earlier this week that the world record for the deepest cave dive has been broken. It was a huge achievement for the team, which faced various challenges, from losing valuable team members due to illness during the expedition, to treacherous mountain roads, broken-down vehicles and dangerously heavy rains in Abkhazia, where the Krubera-Voronya cave is located. Luckily for everyone, nothing serious happened, well, except when a member of the team, Ukrainian cave diver Genadij Samochin, set a new world record.

Speleologists have reached a new cave depth world record!

Last week a team of Lithuanian and Ukrainian cavers reached the bottom of Krubera – Voronya cave, the deepest cave on Earth. Ukrainian caver Genadij Semochin has dived into the water sump “Two captains” and has improved cave depth world record by 6 meters!

Cavers in Krubera – Voronya are being hit by unexpected problems

Team of Lithuanian and foreign cavers, who have entered the deepest cave on Earth (Krubera – Voronya), are being chased by unexpected problems: few team members got ill, moreover, because of the heavy rains working conditions in the cave became dangerous and connection with some deeper camps last week was lost for more than 24 hours.

Lithuanian cavers have successfully reached the camp in the west Caucasus

Lithuanian cavers, who have started their journey to the deepest cave on Earth -  Krubera – Voronya cave – about a week ago, have finally reached the camp in Caucasus mountains and began their work: transportation of equipment to the depth of the cave.

Cavers’ farewell – with champagne, candle light, songs and... panic

Today the last cavers from Lithuanian team have left the country and started their trip to the western Caucasus. Most of the Lithuanian team is already in Adler, but they will have to wait for a while – the minibus with food and equipment was stuck on Latvian – Russian border for the whole day.

Speleologists are preparing to invade the deepest cave

On the 20th of July Lithuanian team of cavers is departing and starting a long travel to the deepest cave in the world – Krubera – Voronya cave. Last few months the members of the team were training hard to prepare themselves for the challenging two weeks work in the underground labyrinths. The training program included climbing the 45m tall water tower and cave – diving lessons in the lakes or flooded forts.

Extraordinary adventures await Lithuanian speleologists this summer – one of the biggest caving clubs in the Baltic states “Aenigma” fourth time now is organizing a travel to the deepest cave of the Earth, also called “Bottom of the World” or “Everest under the ground”! It is possible that this year speleologists will achieve a new cave depth world record!
