Aenigma – the secret, that binds together

In 2006 a nonprofit organization "Aenigma" (in latin – "a secret, a mystery") was established in Lithuania. It is currently one of the largest caving clubs in the Baltics.

In 2008, 2009 and 2010 members of "Aenigma" have traveled to the deepest cave in the world Krubera – Voronya and joined Ukrainian team UkrSA in it's research. During those travels a sign of commemoration of the Millennium of Lithuania’s Name was placed on the wall of the sump "Two Captains" (in the depth of – 2140 m, which has been reached only by a few tens of people until now). Moreover, Lithuanian caver Saulė Vaš (formely Saulė Pankienė) became the first woman who's reached – 2143 m depth in a cave.

Every year "Aenigma" is arranging more than a dozen expeditions in Europe and Asia. It is also very active in educational field (teaching young cavers on free of charge basis, organizing educational trips), spreading the information about caving in media, taking part in various projects about the ecological conservation of the caves and it’s biological variety, promoting the name of Lithuania worldwide.

Members of "Aenigma" have already found more than one and a half kilometers of new passages and branches in Crimea, Turkey and Spain caves. Their achievements are registered in the Lithuanian records book "Factum". A search for the new caves is one of the main goals of  "Aenigma".

At present the club brings together tens of the cavers from various Lithuanian cities: Vilnius, Kaunas, Siauliai, Panevezys, Klaipeda, Varena, Druskininkai and others. Although caving is mostly attractive for young people, "Aenigma" can be proud of the fact that among it’s members there are speleologists who have started exploring the underworld mazes already a quarter century ago.
